Summer Granita

Just got my July Martha Stewart Living
(yes I am a Martha fan, have been for at least 10 years, don't judge me).  I made a recipe from the issue, Peach Granita.  Then I was inspired to make my own twist on it.  So, here's the recipes.  It's actually a very healthy treat as well.

Peach Granita with Fresh Basil

4 ripe peaches, peeled, halved, pitted, and coarsely chopped
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
Coarse salt
2 tsp. finely chopped fresh basil (my kids referred to this as the grass in their dessert)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and puree.  Pour into a 8" glass pan.  Freeze for at least 2 1/2 hours, scraping it with a fork every hour.  Mixture should be frozen, but fluffy. Top with basil.

Nectarine Granita with Fresh Mint (This is my version)
The recipe is the same as above - just substitute nectarines for peaches and mint for the basil.
I have plans for a Tropical Mango Ginger Granita (I will make that one while I'm in Maui and can get fresh mangoes).
